Default 1841 UK Census

Would someone who has Ancestry be able to find out more about this person please?

http://search.ancestry.com.au/cgi-bi...004003-n_xcl=f

and

http://search.ancestry.com.au/cgi-bi...004003-n_xcl=f

The one I am looking for is William Laughlan (spelt however). He may not have been married at the time, and was born in Drumachose, Derry, Ireland. His parents were William & Jane Laughlan (nee Stewart)

I've just realised you have to pay for this information - does anyone know how much it costs please? Its such a wild shot as William Laughlan was such a common name.

Yikes, your links keep taking me to the ranked search and I'm not used to that one! Anyway, I can't see any Williams born Ireland in that lot. Not sure what you mean about having to pay? It depends what sub you have at the moment and what sub you would need to upgrade to, I suppose, but if you're going to pay just to search the Scottish censuses I would recommend you try FreeCEN first as it has a lot of Scottish coverage (and is free, of course!), and then Scotland's People, because although you will have to pay on there, you might well end up having to look at the images on there even if you paid to view transcriptions on ancestry - the ancestry transcriptions are, um, variable in quality and you might have to check whether they're right!

The William Lachlan at the top of the list from your first link is on FreeCEN and was born Renfrewshire, by the way.

It's worth mentioning that if you select just a census year, you may miss the Scottish ones. Just an oddity of the way Ancestry works. When looking for Scottish census results I select the exact census I want to search.

Well I did find something I'd been searching for a long time. William had a son Samuel supposedly born 1851 but I gathered it was a son from a previous marriage. I now know his first wife's name was Elisabeth.

Could someone locate a marriage of Elisabeth ? to William Lauchlan (spelt all manner of ways) just prior to 1851 (they were living here -

1851 Census
11 Records found

Piece: SCT1851/622 Place: Barony -Lanarkshire Enumeration District: 5
Civil Parish: Camlachie Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 590 Page: 13 Schedule: 48
Address: 524 Duke Street

and I understand Elisabeth was also born in Ireland. I think they were married in Scotland tho.

Also a death of Elisabeth Lauchlan prior to 1855.

Jood......you will have to look at Scotlands People to find a marriage in Scotland.

Can't think of anywhere else it would be, unless you luck a tree on Ancestry that's right....

Well, it would be worth looking on FamilySearch too.
